Judith had gotten so she could only really sleep cocooned in Unrevealed’s velvetesque wings, with Unrevealed’s hands caressing her midriff and Unrevealed’s spiced rum breath sighing lullabies into her ear. Waking up still immersed in such cozy splendor made mornings nicer but made leaving bed for her dreary 9-to-5 job feel akin to ripping off a fingernail.
“Dear Heart,” Unrevealed all but sang, “you know I and the other Mysteries love having you in the Depths, but you must realize you can’t live your whole life in imaginal trances. You’ve got to ground in mundane reality sometime.”
Judith turned and nuzzled her forehead against Unrevealed’s. “But I have to live as Brent in that world.”
“I wonder do you.” Unrevealed traced figure-eights on Judith’s shoulder blades. “I’ve done a little research, and I’ve composed some canticles I highly recommend you try singing.”
